Mark Contarino Headshot2

Dr. Mark Contarino has engineering degrees from Duke University and Drexel University. In 2008, Dr. Contarino founded Scire Consultants, a UAS technology-centric R&D consultancy based in Philadelphia, PA. His efforts focused on increasing the safety of the National Airspace System using NextGen-capable tools. His primary goal was to develop small UAS (SUAS) technology that would play a critical role in unfettered access, working closely with R Cubed Engineering on a low-cost and SWaP-compliant Detect and Avoid solution. The resultant All Weather Sense and Avoid System (AWSAS) was flight tested on manned and unmanned aircraft in both Canada and the United States. This effort culminated in the first Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast (ADS-B) autonomous collision avoidance demonstration between dual SUAS. Today he serves as the Vice President of UAS Programs at Enterprise Engineering Services, LLC and provides technical expertise and integration support for the FAA’s VA/NJ/MD UAS Test Site. A happily married father of two, Mark also enjoys skiing, soccer, golf, classical piano and design/build architecture.
